THE FESTIVAL CUP

Just like buses, you wait ages for a 59 and then two come along at the same time. Alan Taylor scored a fantastic 59 in the morning when the weather was fair.Evening conditions were not quite so good, with some real heavy showers, hampering shot selection. No problem for Willie McCosh who finished in style with a birdie 3 and win the Festival Cup. A fine run of form has seen Willie's handicap plummet to 17  from 22 this season . Another mention to Denis Doherty who scored a 67 gross

BLAIRMORE OPEN

An Armada from Innellan made its way Blairmore for their open last Sunday.Unfortunately the weather and midges were at their worst in the morning  A fantastic gross score of 64, 2 over par from the modest Nipper Simson ,our wet weather expert, was enough to win the gross prize and share the handicap prize.

So well done to Nipper and all the other Innellan members who attended Blairmore and Strone Golf Club, they appreciated our support.

On Sunday we have a Mixed Open, with 20 couples taking part. The 1st tee is reserved from 10 till 2.
Next event for members only is the Centenary Scramble on Monday at 6, be there for 5.30 for the ballot.

BULLWOOD BUCKET

The 2nd leg of The Bullwood Bucket was played at Cowal on Friday the 15th. As per usual the rain started bang on the 5.30 tee time and never  really stopped till Saturday afternoon. A score of 3.5 to 1.5 secured the Bucket for Innellan for the 1st time in years making an aggregate score of 6.5 to 3.5.
Top scorers for Innellan were Billy Ferguson and Steve Ellis and Scott Lauffer/Bertie Brown and myself who scored 2 points each. Also scoring vital points were Chris Carson and Bruce Lauder and Davy Cooper and Ewen Mitchell/Patsy Gallagher and Andy Wilson and partner Graham Black.

A special thanks to Patsy for standing in for Ewen and especially Bertie who got a very late call up 4.30 on the day to substitute for Scott Lauffer, who was injured in the line of duty, getting the vital mail to the residents of Cowal.

Captain of the Cowal team, Davy Galloway presented the Bucket to myself on behalf of Innellan Golf Club. Thanks to Cowal Golf Club for their hospitality and sportsmanship throughout the match.

WESTERN FERRIES TROPHY

The Western Ferries Stableford Competition was well supported by 34 of our members scoring well in the only stableford competition of the summer months. Yes summer I did say that. Thats been almost a week with some decent weather.  Hurrah!!!!. Lets hope it lasts.

As my heading stated this was a competition dominated by let me say it, our less younger members of the club.  Our top 3 would not look out of place on The Seniors Tour .

Fantastic scoring in 3rd place was David Friend with 37 pts, second place went to Billy McLaughlin, think it has been a week since I last mentioned him .Winning the Western Ferries Trophy,  on countback, with a fabulous points total of 38 was Andy Wilson. A very steady round indeed, of which I am sure, would have won a strokeplay event also.

BULLWOOD BUCKET

Speaking of Andy Wilson, he was one of the team of ten, leading  the Cowal boys into the 2nd leg away this Friday.

Andy and partner,Graham Black  played well to secure a half point . Other points scorers for Innellan last Friday were Steve Ellis and Billy Ferguson who won a point against Ronnie Oliphant and David Houston .Scott Lauffer and myself secured a full point against Tommy Telfer and Craig Houston. Getting a half match also were Bruce Lauder and Chris Carson, who played a strong pairing of Donald McKay and Davy Galloway.

Davy Galloway thanked our team, greens staff and also the fine catering provided by Patrick and assisted by Bobby.

So let us keep up this fine standard on and off the course . Our members are a credit to the club and going by the reports of most visitors, the course is a joy to play, with the advantage of friendly members, making the club one of the most welcoming.

So Innellan lead Cowal 3 games to 2 and away leg this Friday. So fingers crossed, hopefully good news next week on the Bucket result.

MIXED OPEN

Still on the lookout for donations of raffle prizes, so please be generous.

Thanks again for all your support this year so far.

SUMMER HAS ARRIVED

Going to this blog I believe that summer has finally arrived and last weeks scores reflected this.

SUNDAY CUP

A summer's day greeted 27 players from near and far as this was an Open Competition and The Sunday Cup was retained by Andy Collings, who raced round the course with a nett 61.A fantastic effort by Andy who faltered a wee bit at the end of his front nine but kept his composure to win again with a very steady back nine.I was informed that Andy was so confident about his game he never bothered to bring the trophy along in the morning for the presentation at the end of the play.

Confidence, I love that in a player!!!

In 2nd place was Denis Doherty who shot a nett 62  and Willie McCosh 3rd with a 63, fine scoring indeed .

JULY MEDAL

Another scorcher of a day, great isn't it to say that, had 29 entrants for the July Medal.

A smashing day again was reflected again in the scoring by having 3 players shoot nett 61s.

Third place went to Bruce Lauder and 2nd was Richard Lysik and winning on the countback, was the in form player,Willie McCosh.

Both Bruce and Richard both had bogies up 18 to let the July Medal slip through their fingers and let Willie nip in to win the medal with 2 pars at the last 2 holes.

So well done to all players last weekend and we look forward to a busy July with Open Competitions throughout this month.

BULLWOOD BUCKET

A team match sees Innellan at home to Cowal in the bucket and away next Friday so lets hope the team can take something to defend at Cowal. So good luck to them on Friday.

MONDAY 11 JULY

Next weeks competition  is The Western Ferries Stableford so get out there whilst the sun is still here.

There is notice in the clubhouse regarding a day trip to Rothesay Golf Club on the 27th  July please append your name for a good day out.

Another appeal, we are looking for raffle prizes for our Mixed Stableford Competition on the 24th July, so anything which is hidden in the kitchen drawer and is no use to you, is most welcome.

So thanks for your generosity and good luck hunting.

Have a great weekend and again Happy Golfing.

Club Championship Round 2

A better day weather wise had 30 players for the 2nd Round of the Club Championship.

Leading by 4 shots Chris Carson secured his 1st Club Championship, with another steady 67, for a total of 134, beating his nearest challenger, Nipper Simpson, by 5 shots, who shot a creditable 68, to keep Chris waiting to the very end of play.

A mention must go to the defending champion, Denis Doherty, who tried to keep a grip of his title by playing round in 65. A valiant effort by him, that almost saw a bigger comeback since Lazarus. This effort saw him race up the leaderboard and into 2nd place in The Mark Wells Trophy which is awarded for the best nett scores.

Winning the nett prize, was Nipper ,who amassed a total of 127, to beat Denis and Robin McDougall by one stroke.

So congratulations to Chris and Nipper for their victorys, and all who supported the event.

Sunday Golf again sees the annual Sunday Cup which is another Open Comp and Monday is the July Medal.

So get yourself out there and hit some balls, as who knows how long this good weather will last.

Remember the Clubhouse is open 11 till 5 ,and Summer hours soon will have the Clubhouse opened till 8.

Have a great weekend and Happy Golfing
