Vice Captains Prize

If only we had a vice captain!

On a day when we had some mixed weather, with real heavy thunder storms, interspersed with some  lovely warm sunshine, scoring again was very good.

We had 27 players with a few getting caught in the worst of the showers making it very difficult to get round.

Nontheless, of  the players who finished their round we had 4 players under par with Robert Dodds scoring a nett 60, beating Robert Baxter by one and Alex Robertson and Archie Tait by 2.

The heavy rain over the last week has taken the fire out of the course and the greens are running smooth.

On Saturday we had visitors from the Clubgolf programme who had won a fourball at Innellan.,

They heaped praise on the course, the views, and the very friendly staff.

Well done to all involved and lets keep up the good work on keeping our golf club one of the most welcoming in Scotland.

Ex Presidents Cup

Playing for the oldest trophy in  Innellan Golf Club history, we had 30 players on another decent day.

With well manicured greens and running fairways, scoring was very good, with David Mclaughlin coming in with a magnificent 60, beating Gordon Livingston and Richard Lysik by 2 strokes.

With the highest score on the card being a 5, David played very steadily and cruised to his best result this year.

Best gross was Gordon Livingston with 69.

Festival Cup

On another beautiful day and night, we had 27 Gents and 5 ladies take part in The Festival Cup.

Under a different format from  last year there was a separate competition for both sexes.

Of the 6 ladies playing under a stableford comp, Margaret Lauder won with a fantastic 34 points, followed by Irene Hodge on 32 pts.

As for the Gents it was a very close event, with 3 players all tied on 64.

Winning on countback was form man, Dougie Cooper with Phil Mortimer and Mike Clark also on 64.

With the course in excellent condition we had a very good turnout again, for this popular Friday event.

July Stroke

On another glorious July day we had 29 players for the July Stroke.

With greens  faster and harder than ever, and the ball running for miles, the css was 65, with few players scoring below that.

On countback with a score of 62, winner Archie Tait, tied with Richard Lysik, closely followed by Duncan Lauder and Dougie Cooper, only one stroke behind..

Good to see Archie's return to form with  him not playing too many competitions in the last year.

I don't like Mondays

On another glorious day we had 27 grace the turf at Innellan for the Sunday Cup.

With the greens hard and fast, links golf was the order of the day for low scoring.

I overheard someone say, that he had stuck some juicy fruit on his putter on some holes just to keep the ball on the greens.

The course is in excellent condition and the members are enjoying hitting the ball further than
ever, due to this spell of dry weather.

Well onto the players themselves, as the heading states, Boomtown Rat,or is it The Sundance Kid, Andy Collings, wins the Sunday Cup again, for the 3rd time in 4 years. A fantastic achievement indeed.

A nett score of 61, won by 3 strokes from Scott Lauffer on 64, and  Nipper Simpson with a 65 took 3rd.

Best gross of the day with same score  were, Chris Richmond, of Cowal with a 72 and our own Nipper  Simpson.

Lets hope this great weather continues and keeps the numbers up on competition days.

Western Ferries Stableford

On another beautiful day, 36 players took to the course, to top up their tan and also maybe throw in some golf.

Some great scoring saw Bruce Lauder, burn up the course with a fantastic 41 pts, closely followed by Martin Doherty, 39 pts and form man, Stan Greer on 38 pts..

A very steady round saw Bruce score well  on all holes apart from one and a one over par front nine saw him in good shape for the rest of the round.

6 players played better than their handicap and css was 36 pts.

JULY MEDAL

33 players took part in the July Medal, and with showery weather scoring was difficult.

Only 2 players beat their handicap with Stan Greer, buoyed by his previous 1st round in the Shaw, beating Mike Clark on countback  with both scoring  nett 63.

Best gross of the day was Denis Doherty with a 71.

Next competition is the Saturday Stroke and after that, is The Western Ferries Trophy, a stableford event.

Club Championship

With gale force winds awaiting 28 sturdy souls, scoring was high with Denis Doherty scoring a very steady 71 on Sunday leading the gross by 4 strokes, from Robert Baxter, and a number of players on 76.

Leading the way in the handicap event were Robert Dodds and Denis Doherty with a nett 65 with Dougie Cooper, trailing by just the one stroke.

A better day on Monday, with less wind saw 30 players compete for the honour of being Innellan Golf Club Champion.

The top 6 in the gross were last 2 groups to go out, and the eventual winner, was the lowest handicap player at the club ,Scott Ferguson.

Scott played well, whilst others not scoring so good, and he  batted round the course in a very good 68, taking the Championship by 3 strokes, from Denis Doherty who scored 76 to miss out by 3.

The Mark Wells Trophy was closely contested too with Dougie Cooper, 132 nett, beating the father and son duo, Billy and Scott Ferguson by 2 strokes and closely followed by evergreen, Billy McLaughlin who also scored 134.

Thanks again to all took part and endured the high winds on Sunday and the efforts of all the greens staff ,who presented the course in magnificent condition and house staff who provided valuable food and drink when required.
