THE GREENKEEPERS DAY

After almost a year in exile The Captains Blog is back. I was waiting for some better weather to rear my head and dust the clubs down again.

A misty morning saw 20 players take to the grass on a soggy, wet, overcast day with some super scores being posted by the early starters.

A total of 17 players from local clubs Cowal and Blairmore, added to the Innellan members ,made a fantastic total of 57 players.

57 is a rather ironic number as the event had a variety of players and a new concept at Innellan, men and Ladies playing in the same competition along side each other.

The course held up well considering the torrential rain of the previous days, thanks again to the Greens staff on presenting the course in such adverse weather.

With the greens in such good condition scoring was good with some unbelievable scores being posted.

Scott Ferguson has found the way to play Innellan and has seen his handicap reduce to 5 in the last year.

On Monday, Scott had a wand instead of a putter and like Harry Potter cast some magic on the course, with a winning gross score of 65, net 59 and had it not been for a few wee blips on the way, a new course record could have been under threat.

With that score in The Clubhouse a few entrants might have been dismayed to see such a great score to beat, but beaten it was, by David Cooper, with a superb gross 68 net 57.

An eventful round with two 2s and one being an eagle 2 at the ninth saw David win by 2 strokes from Scott.

Jackie Lauder led the way for the ladies with a gross 81 net 65  to cap a very well supported event by the Cowal clubs.

A big thanks to all house staff for their fantastic efforts on the day with such a good turnout.

Next event up for the Gents is The McGillivray Quaich on Monday 13th  and Ladies is Three clubs and a putter on Thursday 9th May.

Lets hope the weather picks up for these events.

THE SHAW TROPHY

After 2 rounds of competitive golf, winner of the Shaw Trophy, was Michael Mallaney with a total nett score of 124, beating evergreen Billy McLaughlin  by 3 strokes..

Leading by only one stroke, Michael held his nerve to post a steady 64 together with his 60 from round 1.

Billy was 6 strokes adrift but a good score of 61 got him back into contention and eventually finish 2nd..

Thanks to all who took part..

JUNE MEDAL

Another great turnout for the June Medal, saw some 42 players take part.

Continuing the  good scoring this year, Gerry Gallagher scored a fantastic nett 57 beating David Friend by 3 shots. who on any other day  would have won with a marvellous 60..

Showing the course is in good condition were 8 players who all scored under par of 64

JUNE SATURDAY STROKE

Fourteen players took part in this competition with Michael Mallaney smashing his ball around the course, for a nett 59, only just pipping Derek Purdie and Douglas Pollock who both shot 60s.

Four players played under par, in this increasingly popular addition to the Innellan Golf Club fixture list..

9 hole Ladies Stableford 31/05/12

2 ladies excelled on this day, with fantastic scoring of 23, by Irene Hodge and Jackie Lauder with 22 points.

Well done to all who took part..

The Greenkeepers

Following on from his mediocre 60 in relative terms, Billy McBride scored a fantastic nett 56 with a gross of 69 being best gross too.

On a day for scoring  6 players scored under par on a well maicured course and fiery greens..

A masive 44 players took part in good weather.

 Fantastic participation indeed..

A massive thank you, from all the Staff  for your support again.
