Winter League Outing

Welcome to the latest blog.

After a call to the Pro, at Buchanan Castle Golf Club, I was surprised to find the Outing still on, with all the rain we had yesterday and  most of last night.

After a breakfast of hot filled rolls and coffee we made our way down on to the course.

On Sunday the 22nd, 15 devotees of the Winter League were greeted by glorious sunshine on the 1st Tee of Buchanan Castle, with a light scirocco to keep us cool.

Aye right it was gusting around 30 mph and lashing, just perfect for The Winter( League).

Buchanan Castle were perfect hosts, with Greens just like our well kept greens and sodden fairways just like ours, but then again all the courses on the West of Scotland  have had to endure this spell of wet weather.

We had Individual and Team Stableford, as well as other prizes up for grabs.

Longest drive and Nearest the Pin prizes were won by Robert Dodds and Billy McLaughlin repectively.

The team competition was won on counback by Pete Pullen, Robert Dodds, and myself with a team score of 44 points.

The Individual prize was won by Robert Dodds with a great score of 36 points and had he not bought those balls that are afraid of the dark I am sure he would have amassed at least 40 points. Bet he was glad that Junior had brought the van to take back all his winnings.

In 2nd place was Willie Ferguson with 33  points and 3rd was Jr Carmichael with 32 points.

So thanks to all the participants who braved the elements and hopefully had a good day.

Unfortunately last week's event at Innellan, The Geoff Arden Trophy had to be postponed due to the bad weather.

Next competition at Innellan is the 1st Round of the Shaw Trophy weather permitting.

So good luck to all and play well.
