Firth of Clyde

Better late than never with this report.

Well done to Largs Kelburn for winning at Innellan Golf Club on Saturday 4th June 2011.

The 5 man team from Largs with 3 players off scratch scored a of 213 with the best 3 from 5 counting towards the team score.

With the wind picking up in the afternoon and worsening conditions this score proved hard to better.

Skelmorlie came 2nd, with 215 and our own guys a disappointing 3rd, with a team score of 218.

Graham McArthur, of Rothesay Golf Club, played well and was the only player to break 70, with a fantastic score of 68, to win the individual prize.

A special thanks to Billy and Davy who where up preparing the course at 1st light. The comments from all players involved were "what a great course we have and in such a fabulous condition." Fantastic praise once again to our greens staff.

Willie for setting up the computer for all the scores, this saved time and made it easier to process the results very quickly.

Patrick who was hard at it in the kitchen, preparing food all day for the 50 odd guests we had. Sheila and Maureen who served the food and drink to all the competitors and Committee of the Firth of Clyde. Everyone enjoyed their meal and I believe the drinks flowed and a good day was had by all.

A special mention must go David Hodge, who started the morning at 8am as a ball spotter and having given up that job and was still at the club at 6pm helping out behind the bar. A ten hour unpaid shift, which did not go unnoticed.

Our Secretary Bobby for being there also from start to finish. What a great effort he made to make the day go smoothly and make my job as Club Captain that bit easier. Though saying that I was a player  in the afternoon and could have done with all the help I could get. But alas, all our efforts did not get us the elusive Big Firth Trophy.

So here is looking forward to" The Wee Firth" on the 20th August when we will do this all again.

Blogging off.

Andy
