Geoff Arden Trophy and June Medal Results

A good weekend of dry weather saw a turnout of  26 players for the previously postponed Geoff Arden Trophy. Some good scores in the morning by Ronnie Stokes and Duncan Lauder 63 and 62 respectively looked almost unbeatable, until Denis Doherty and myself shaded the spoils.

Denis Doherty came 2nd beating Duncan on the best inward half and I managed to sneak into 1st position with a 61.

Playing together in perfect conditions, Denis and I did not have much between us all round. With a 2 shot swing in the offing, when I missed the green and Denis looking a certainty for birdie landing 6 feet from the hole, miracle of miracles, I developed a short game and pitched in for a cheeky wee 2 at the 17th.

Old saying "Better lucky than Good".

Talking of good, on to the June Medal, an excellent  gross score of 63 by Chris Carson getting his handicap back down to Scratch by netting a 62.

Getting to grips with his new driver, Chris tamed the course for the 1st time this year and managed to  hole a few putts with the short stick to secure 4 birdies in the middle of his round to secure the best gross score of the year so far.

In 2nd and 3rd place were Scott Lauffer and Richard Deane with 63 and 64. So thanks again to the 28 players who played on Monday.

This weeks events see the 1st round of the Club Championship on Sunday with 3 time slots for ballot. See clubhouse for times available.

On Monday, sees an Open Competition, "The Greenkeepers Day". Billy and Davy and the rest of the Greens Staff deserve a good turnout after all the hard work this year already. Donations for the raffle will be greatly accepted at the clubhouse. All things appreciated, especially things won at our Annual Dance tombola, which is why we have a recycling point behind the bar.

So heres looking forward to a good weekend of competetive golf.

Play well and most importantly, enjoy yourself.

Andy
